Rhinoplasty

What is this?

Reshapes the nose either by reducing or enlarging its size to enhance facial harmony, corrects structural defects, reshapes nose bridge or nasal tip.  This procedure is also performed to correct deviated septum.

Procedure

Rhinoplasty, sometimes referred to as a "nose job" or "nose reshaping" by patients, enhances facial harmony and the proportions of your nose. It can also correct impaired breathing caused by structural defects in the nose.

 

Duration

 

Procedure is normally one hour, but on occasions, can take longer

 

Anesthesia

 

The choices include intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Your doctor will recommend the best choice for you.  This procedure requires hospitalization

 

Possible Side Effects

 

Temporary discomfort, post-operative swelling around the eyes and pain in adjacent areas, numbness of nasal skin, bruising and even light bleeding,

 

Recovery

 

Patient can normally return to work in 2-4 weeks, after second appointment with doctor and his approval.  Patient can resume more strenuous activities in 4-6 weeks.  Scars will heal and disappear in a period of three months to one year

 

Risks

 

May include infection, incision bleeding, pulmonary embolism (blood clot traveling to lung), keloid scar, poor wound healing, unsatisfactory nasal appearance or incomplete aesthetic correction which may require a second surgery
